Austin Energy Power Partner Battery Program

Austin Energy Power Partner Battery Program

Program Overview

Austin Energy’s Power Partner Battery program rewards eligible homeowners for allowing their battery storage systems to help support the electric grid during periods of high community energy demand.

Participating homeowners may receive an upfront incentive for qualifying battery systems as well as annual performance-based rewards for participating in Power Partner events.

EG4 participation is coming soon.

How It Works

During a Power Partner event, an enrolled battery automatically provides stored energy to help reduce demand on Austin Energy’s electric grid.

Your battery will continue to serve your home’s energy needs first, with additional available energy helping support the grid.

  • Event Timing: Events can occur throughout the year.
  • Duration: Events typically last 2–3 hours.
  • Frequency: Up to 40 events per year, excluding grid emergencies.
  • User Control: Events can be overridden through your battery manufacturer’s app.
  • Backup Reserve: Events will not reduce your battery below its configured backup reserve.
  • Severe Weather: Austin Energy typically avoids calling events when severe weather is forecast so stored energy remains available for backup power.

Eligibility

Participation is subject to Austin Energy Power Partner Battery requirements.

  • Customer: You must be an Austin Energy residential customer within Austin Energy’s service territory.
  • Residential Use: The battery system must be used for residential purposes.
  • Equipment: Your battery system must use equipment approved for the program.
  • Installation: The battery must be installed by an Austin Energy participating contractor.
  • Interconnection: The system must meet applicable Austin Energy inspection and interconnection requirements.
  • Ownership: Third-party-owned or operated battery systems are not currently eligible.
  • Solar: A solar system is not required to participate.
  • EG4 Systems: Eligible EG4 system configurations will be announced when EG4 participation launches.

Incentives

Power Partner Battery currently offers two incentives for qualifying customers.

  • $500 Upfront IncentiveAustin Energy offers a $500 rebate for each qualifying battery system that receives Permission to Operate after passing Austin Energy’s final inspection on or after February 18, 2025.
  • Annual Performance IncentiveParticipating homeowners can also earn $75 per average kW of performance each year. Annual earnings depend on factors including battery capacity, backup reserve settings, event duration, participation, and system performance. An EG4 FlexBOSS21 system with two 314Ah WallMounts would earn up to $768 per year based on performance.
