National Grid New York ConnectedSolutions
Program Overview
National Grid’s ConnectedSolutions Battery Program gives eligible homeowners an opportunity to earn annual incentives by allowing their battery systems to support the electric grid during periods of high energy demand.
During program events, enrolled batteries automatically discharge stored energy to help reduce demand on the grid. In return, participating customers can earn performance-based incentives while keeping their battery available for everyday home energy and backup needs.
EG4 participation is coming soon.
How It Works
ConnectedSolutions events typically occur during the summer when electricity demand is at its highest.
During an event, your enrolled battery can automatically discharge stored energy to help reduce demand on the electric grid.
- Event Season: May 1 – September 30
- Event Window: Between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.
- Event Frequency: No more than 60 events per summer
- Duration: Maximum of 4 hours per event
- User Control: You can opt out of an event at any time
National Grid generally avoids calling battery events when extreme weather is forecast, helping participating homeowners preserve stored energy for potential outages.
Eligibility
Participation is subject to National Grid ConnectedSolutions requirements.
- Customer: You must meet National Grid’s applicable program eligibility requirements.
- Equipment: Your battery system must use equipment approved for the ConnectedSolutions program.
- Internet Connection: Your system must maintain an internet connection so it can communicate during program events.
- Battery-Only Systems: Solar is not required. Eligible battery-only systems can participate.
- Existing Solar: Homeowners with an existing solar system may be able to add qualifying battery storage and participate, subject to applicable interconnection requirements.
- EG4 Systems: Eligible EG4 system configurations will be announced when EG4 participation launches.
Incentives
Participating customers can receive an annual incentive based on the average performance of their battery system during the ConnectedSolutions event season.
The current incentive rate is $50 per kW of average performance.
National Grid estimates participating customers may receive approximately $250 per year on average.
Actual earnings vary based on battery size, system configuration, internet connectivity, event participation, and performance.
