Maine Efficiency VPP
Program Overview
The Efficiency Maine Small Battery Incentive Program provides homeowners and eligible partners with a unique opportunity to receive 10 years of funding per site for qualifying battery storage systems. There is no kW or kWh cap on battery size, allowing maximum flexibility for participants. The program is designed to incentivize the discharge of stored energy during designated events to support Maine’s grid reliability and encourage renewable energy adoption.
The program takes place every year, starting on April 1 and ending on March 31, with incentives awarded according to how well participants perform at scheduled events. Up to 60 events may be held annually, with a minimum of two events each month.
How It Works
Once enrolled, battery systems are dispatched during designated events to help balance the grid. The program calculates annual average discharge based on measured battery output during these events. This ensures consistent performance and rewards participants who contribute reliably to the grid. Backup power is available for outages, and batteries support Maine’s electrical infrastructure during peak demand periods.
Eligibility
- Battery Requirements: Systems must meet Efficiency Maine’s interconnection specifications; there is no minimum or maximum kW/kWh cap.
- Customer Qualifications: Homeowners and other eligible site owners must reside in Maine and meet all program terms and conditions.
Incentives
Participants may receive incentives at each site for up to 10 years, and there are no limits on battery capacity. The incentive amount is determined using a rate of $180 per kilowatt-year based on the average annual KW discharge during program events.
